May Event Information and Signups!

▼ If I walked in your shoes...

Hello and welcome players, both old and new, to the event planning for the memory exchange!

We hope that new players will be tantalized by the effects this event offers and give interesting insight into different characters.

▼ What is the Event About?

Basically, a memory exchange/swap event. However, this is Strings, so it's much more than that! There are consequences and side effects...

Starting the 15th of May, characters participating will get their Destiny Strings tangled together. At first it will be barely noticeable; just odd memories that as a player, you know your character didn't have, but your character will think is actually theirs. Their brains/cpus/etc will assimilate these new memories as their own. What this does for a character can depend immensely. A character who has always hated fish but gains a memory about loving sushi might go out to eat sushi that night and then go "Wow I really hate this! But I remember liking it a lot...". Characters who have the ability to view the Strings may start to notice that the Strings are intertwined, but it will take some time for that to be completely visible.

By the end, the characters will be in terrible pain, as their minds try to access these full memories, but with their brains realizing that these are not there after all; many of them no doubt painful and private for the other player. The Government will do their best to aid them during this time, and sort them in a level of the hospital and figure out what they can do to fix it.

Yet in the end, the solution will not be from the Government nor players, but the Strings themselves. With so much tension between both characters, the Strings will, like rubber-bands, snap back into place. This will cause a MASSIVE drain of energy, as it's not a physical snapping, but rather a soul snap and drain. Thus even characters who are strong physically and mentally will be in the hospital for a day or two, drained.

The memories of the others will slowly fade, like dreams...but there are some interesting side-effects to this...

▼ What do you need from players?

If you are interested in swapping and participating we will need from you the following:

▶ 7 "mundane" or semi-important memories your character has. This can be anything from "Went to a music concert with a friend and saw flowers for the first time," to "had ice-cream and fell in love with it." Anything, anytime in your character's life that they remember is fair game. These should be more like tiny little things, not memories that last a day. Just something that the other person can remember and think is their memory.

▶ 4 Traumatic or important memories your character has. These will be for the last four days of the event. These, usually, should be the most life-changing memories your character has had in their lives. For example, one of Eikichi's memories might be when they fought against Nyralthotep. These do not have to be 'bad' memories per-say these can be joyful memories too! But they are usually very private and not something characters would share willingly.

▶ As many routine traits and personality quirks that define them. These can be words they commonly say (Eikichi would be Babe, Hooooo!), things that they tend to do during the day (urge to put on visual-kei makeup and dye their hair, hates sushi, bad singing). This section is to give flavor to the exchange, as the other character starts using them too.

But here's the fun part...even after the event is over, you'll be allowed to keep some of these! It's a memory lingering effect, and not something your characters can completely control.

▶ Four skills the character has. Two should be mundane things (drawing, cooking, guitar, good with plants, etc), and two should be unique skills the character has (martial artist, boxer, lightsaber fighting, etc.)

When the event is over, players will be allowed to pick ONE Mundane and ONE unique skill from the list as muscle and lingering mind memory. Keep in mind that these skills would be more as side effects and no, your character would not suddenly be a jedi master.

An example is if someone listed martial artist as one of their two their unique skills, the other character, once the event is over, might suddenly stop an attack with a reflex block. A person who switched with a Jedi master would be able to hold a Lightsaber without cutting their arm off, but wouldn't be able do actual lightsaber dueling.

These may, however, cause the character to be much more interested in that skill and slowly work on them! Someone who ended up with cooking might start to peruse more complicated recipes. And what better than the person who you shared a few memories from...if they want to teach you.

▶ This will be asked near the end of the event, but everyone who does a memory swap will automatically gain a dual persona with that person. This is the major side effect from the exchange.

▼ Okay, I got all of that, what now?

Reply below either in either the preplaned exchanges (meaning you talked with someone and you already agreed you'd be exchanging with them) with your list of memories and who you are changing it with OR the roulette exchange, which will close on May 15th, 11L59pm and you will get randomly paired with someone else.

▼ Can I have a simple timeline of what's happening?

No problem!

▶ 15th of May, any character participating will have their String start to get tangled with someone else's. This will lead to memory bleeding, with their own brains trying to assimilate those memories as their own. No one thinks anything is wrong for now.
▶ Characters will start to act odder than normal, and adopt behavior and quirks from the other person.
▶ The last four days will end with very emotionally important memories from the other person, as they begin to suspect something is wrong. It will become much more painful.
▶ On the last day, the Government will try to round up everyone affected in the hospital in a hope to cure them.
▶ However the Strings themselves will snap back into place, causing a massive energy loss and soul draining, meaning anyone involved will be in the hospital for the next few days to regain their strength.
▶ The memories they experienced will linger like dreams; they may remember the more traumatic ones, but not fully and, as time goes on, will remember less and less.
▶ They will gain a dual persona with the other person
▶ They can also have lingering memories of a mundane and one unique skill the other character has. What they do with these is up to them; it might pique their curiosity about the subject or it might just end up being muscle reflexes later on.
▶ But who caused this and why? The Government have no leads, so some digging may be necessary...

Actually that could work! Cause, really, Lanister's not all that evil either, he just pretends to be so he doesn't get in trouble with Hell's Upper Management. So, yes, sleep and then we can discuss more /o/ after I come back from work.

7. Providing three different personality engrams to install in her mass production clones.

demifemme: MADE FOR ME DO NOT TAKE PLZ (Shu - Flower of Hell)

Hitoshura "Shura" [AU1] & Yukiko Amagi [OU]

[personal profile] demifemme 2013-05-14 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Your Nickname: Nyx Midnight
Character's Name: Hitoshura (Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne)
Exchanging With: Yukiko Amagi

Normal Memories:
NOTE: In all human memories, Shura is being called "Hisao-chan" or "Kiku" by others.

1. Dressed in her kindergarten uniform, playing with a big ball and a boy with short hair named Isamu Nitta.
2. In her first year of school, comparing hair length with a girl named Chiaki Tachibana after school and fighting with her over it.
3. Bringing a ikebana arrangement she made in school to her mother and being praised for it.
4. Being on the winning team on her school's Sports Festival, but she doesn't remember which year that was.
5. Playing video games in her bedroom and beating a rare slime for the first time.
6. Trying to relax at Nyx's Lounge, after the end of the world, sitting at the counter with a glass of water with Pixie fluttering around her and Jack Frost hugging her legs. She is not yet used to not wearing a shirt.
7. Having tea with the Collector Manikin and Futomimi in Asakusa during the New phase of Kagutsuchi in Collector's newly opened shop. The space is cluttered with human objects from floor to ceiling, leaving only a small free space on the counter, where they all put their tea cups.

Traumatic/Important Memories:
CONTENT WARNING: End of the world, mass murder.
1. Being on the hospital roof when the world ended. Watching Tokyo fold in on itself at the horizon while lightning destroyed most of the city and an ominous ball of light grew in the middle of the spherical world. Shura remembers the deafening claps of thunder, the earth shaking under her feet, the smell of ozone like during a storm, the blinding light sucking her soul up.

2. Becoming a demon. As she lay half-unconscious after the light told her she had not even the smallest hint of Reason in her heart, she saw a blond child with an old nanny. She thought they were a dying hallucination at first, but then the nanny knelt over her to hold her head still while the child let a white worm-like creature fall into her mouth. After that, Shura only remembers the nanny saying "This will make you a demon", red tinting her vision and pain, unimaginable pain flaring in every square inch of her body. She never would have thought a human could survive that much pain. When she next work up, she was in the hospital morgue.

3. Meeting Pixie. She was half-naked, disorientated, cold and on the verge of panic when she first met that Pixie. Even if the Pixie said she looked weak and scrawny, she accepted to help Shura. Shura thought to herself that maybe, maybe she wouldn't have to go through this hell alone.

4. The Manikins genocide. This is Shura's strongest memory. She arrived in a death silent Asakusa after what must have been the longest Amala Network ride in history. There were absolutely no Manikins around, only hostile angels. She fought her way down to Mifunashiro, where she found the thick, heavy door to the Manikins' holy birthland bent and twisted on the floor. It was there that she saw the first dead Manikins. The smell of death and blood, close to human blood, was permeating everything, the screams of the dying resonating in the beautiful, serene but cold open shaft that made up most of Mifunashiro. On her way down, countless deaths, and countless angels harassing her, trying to kill her, hunting down the survivors to finish them off. When she finally reached the bottom, she found a mirror that teleported her to the holy of holy, the cave where the Manikins emerged from the black clay of the river banks. The sacred ropes were of no help against Chiaki as she crushed the skulls of "mud dolls" with her freakish, twisted arm and turned to Futomimi. Despite Shura's best efforts to murder the three Seaphs Chiaki had summoned as soon as possible, she still did not manage to save Futomimi, who died fighting Chiaki. Further soiling the pure clay of the river, Chiaki summoned her god there with the magatsuhi stored in the holy place, then left, having massacred the weakest, most peaceful race of the Vortex World to prove her supposed strength.

Character Quirks:
- Short fuse. Shura gets angry rather quickly and tends to swear when she is, using mostly "shit" and "fuck". Refuses to swear by God.
- Racist against angels and the judeo-christian God.
- Loves running and trains regularly, morning and evening, to keep in shape.
- Calls people by their first name, without honorifics.
- Knows friendly demons (Pixie, Hua Po, Jack Frost, Pyro Jack, Kodama, Sudama) and chats with them as one would with friends.

Mundane Skills:
1. Running mid and long distance.
2. Throwing a good punch.

Unique Skills:
1. Speaking with demons. Shura knows demon languages, at least the main ones, and can carry a conversation with most races of demons. She's also skilled at convincing them to fight at her side or give her presents.
2. Demon summoning without the use of instruments. Since she can convince demons to join her ranks, she can summon them to do her bidding. She uses this mostly for battle, but it could be used in mundane situations.

Sorry. In the end Oichi's intro log didn't move as quickly as I hoped it would, so I decided to leave her out of this one. (I got a wee bit over ambitious with it, and I feel like I have to know how it ends before I do anything else with her.)

That and with two other characters in the event I'll probably be pretty busy. orz

Samus Aran [OU] and King DeDeDe [AU1]

[personal profile] screwattack 2013-05-14 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Your Nickname: Kat
Character's Name: Samus Aran (Metroid)
Exchanging With: King DeDeDe (There Will Be Brawl)

Normal Memories:
-Old Bird, her father, and spending time training with him
-Her home on Zebes, and the whole layout of the planet
-Her brief time with the Federation Police doing missions and often acting rebellious during reconnaissance missions
-Showing off her skills while being considered for recruitment in a special division of the Federation's military
-Adam Malkovich as her old commanding officer
-Lots and lots of alone time while patroling in space in her ship
-Appreciation for the beautiful Chozo architecture of both Tallon IV and Skytown, Elysia

Traumatic/Important Memories:

-The raid on her home planet, K-2L, by space pirates and the death her mother by the hands of Ridley, and both the trauma and sheer anger over being the only survivor of the attack

-The moment she decides to leave the Federation: one of her comrades in her squad gets left behind on an enemy ship set to self-destruct. Samus insists that they go back and retrieve him, but her CO refuses to risk a suicide mission, and orders her to stay behind. Samus disobeys orders and retrieves her comrade on her own, saving his life with barely enough time to spare, and ushering the both of them onto her own ship (as their squad had already left both of them behind). While deeming her CO's choice perhaps correct, the restrictive nature of the military and the fact that she can get the impossible done on her own gives her cause to leave and do freelance work.

-Each encounter facing and killing Ridley in vengeance (Metroid, Metroid Prime 1, and Metroid Prime 3), noticing that each time he comes back he keeps getting stronger and just won't stay dead

-Her fight with Rundas, who had gone completely mad and wild, practically turned into a wild animal from the Phazon corrupting his mind, and her fight with Ghor, who was noticeably in a less advanced stage of Phazon corruption, though completely insane nonetheless. Also the fact that she'd been forced to kill both of them, with no way of saving their lives.

Character Quirks: Generally Samus tries to put on a tough, lone wolf kind of act, and is much more blunt and even technical with her speech. She tends to use military jargon in conversation, such as 'affirmative' or 'negative' instead of yes or no. She also has a strange hobby of logging away information about interesting things and people around her.
Mundane Skills:
-Knowing the Galactic Federation's salute
-Knowing a few basic phrases in the Chozo language (like hi, bye, thank you)
Unique Skills:
-Ability to fly her ship
-Some acrobatic abilities
heritors: "i believe the woman you want is me!" (( smile ) travelled the world)

Your Nickname: Doji
Character's Name: Miyako Hotsuin [OC] | SMT: Devil Survivor 2 | [personal profile] capitalbackup
Exchanging With: Miki Sanada [AU1] | Persona 3 | [personal profile] helenchanted

Normal Memories:
▶ Studying university-level subjects at a young age
▶ First time eating takoyaki and enjoying it (curiosity -> surprised -> enjoyment)
▶ Revealing herself to the DeSu cast on 6th Day
▶ Sparring with Yamato (and winning)
▶ Being told she will be Yamato’s backup in case he died or otherwise incapacitated. Due to this, her existence will be a secret to everyone but certain people.
▶ Fighting demons.

Traumatic/Important Memories:
▶ The first time she successfully summoned a demon (Orthrus, strong sense of pride and accomplishment)
▶ The rare moment when Alcor spent some time alone with her instead of Yamato. May include headpatting, hand holding and being shy but eager. (Shy, nervousness, eagerness, happiness)
▶ Fighting by Yamato’s side in the open against Hibiki and company as their last attempt to win for meritocracy (AO’s route boss fight). (Focused, anger, annoyanced, determination, strong desire to win, desperation)
▶ Watching Yamato's death (AO's route) and feeling the sudden “emptiness” due to twin (and essentially other half of her soul) dying, as if something got cut from her. (Tiredness from battle, confusion, shock, numbness) [WARNING: Death]

Character Quirks:
▶ Lack of empathy (how to people)
▶ Curious and/or baffled by most mundane, normal people things
▶ Really likes takoyaki and yakiniku
▶ Morbid humour

Tohru Adachi [AU] & Judas Iscariot [OU]

[personal profile] misogynistic 2013-05-14 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Your Nickname: Yucee
Character's Name: Tohru Adachi (Persona 4)
Exchanging With: Judas Iscariot (Saint Young Men)

Normal Memories:
- hanging out at the gas station of all places in the middle of the night
- ditching work at Junes
- bumming food off of Dojima
- going out drinking with Dojima
- helping Nanako with her homework
- the countless nights he's spent watching tv while eating cup ramen
- the nagging he received from that one old lady who used him as a replacement for her son

Traumatic/Important Memories:
- When he convinces Yu to burn the only bit of solid evidence they have that could convict Adachi as the killer. (Without any sort of context and even on tape, all this really appears to be is Adachi testing Yu. In Adachi's head, it's pretty odd that Yu would visit him in general, and Adachi never flat out says he did anything. At best, he seems like he's only pretending. You know, like a good cop gathering more information.) What Judas will probably get out of this is a sick amusement whenever he sees a member of the IT or if he bumps into Sooj.

- Not the details of why he was transferred, but how much it affected his life in general, right down to affecting his diet and his demeanor around everyone.

- Adachi's childhood and how much his parents forced upon him when it comes to school. He had very demanding parents, went to a very demanding school, and didn't have much time to himself. Nightmares about faceless overbearing parents?

- How bad Adachi's luck has been when it comes to relationships with women. Not his misogyny, just his bad luck. Although, he might become a bit tongue-tied around them?

Character Quirks:
- feeling no remorse for his actions
- not caring at all for the people around him
- how impulsive he can be
- thriving off entertainment and will prolong even the worst things to keep it going

Mundane Skills:
- living off the worst diet ever
- how good he is at slacking off at work

Unique Skills:
- Being a pretty good shot
- his vast knowledge on guns in general.

Miki Sanada [AU1] & Miyako Hotsuin [OC]

[personal profile] helenchanted 2013-05-15 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Normal Memories:

1) Training her martial arts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dait%C5%8D-ry%C5%AB_Aiki-j%C5%ABjutsu)
2) SEES Gun Usage (tm)
3) Cooking food with Shinjiro (and brotherly attatchment that comes with it)
4) Playing video games at the arcade (tends to love shooters the most, the coin gobber games), with Minami and Aigis.
5) Training with her weapon (a Manriki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kusari-fundo)
6) Spending a day on the roof of the SEES building, meditating and relaxing.
7) Goofing around with SEES, (Junpei, Miki, Aigis, Minami, Yukari, Mitsuru). It's mostly a girl thing.

Traumatic/Important Memories:
> Shinjiro dying during the shootout. (SHOOTING, DEATH)
(Since this is an AU, Miyako would remember seeing Shinjiro in a pool of his own blood, with what appears to be Ken running away with Minato, the Strega leader, and the rage thinking that he was the one responsible, and pain at her brother's death.

> Facing Nyx
(In a combined effort from both Strega and SEES working together, they face off against Nyx, much like the game. Only this time, Minato (leading Strega) and Minami (Leading SEES) are working together. Much like the game, Minami is about to sacrafice herself, but Minato takes her place.

> The death of Akihiko
(This is a childhood memory. There is incredibly pain as Miki hides under a bed, the building around her burning. Suddenly the door bursts open and Akihiko as a young child steps in, grabs her and drags her outside. Miki's back gets cooked by the fire, but she holds her breath. After her brother drags her outside, he dies from oxygen deprivation.)

> Meeting Minami and SEES v2
(This is when Minami moves into the SEES dorm for the first time and Miki sees her. She has a feeling that they'll be good friends and likes her already (if she has potential or not). This is more of a warm friendship memory, but it's very powerful, as she considers Minami her BFF.

Character Quirks:
> Collected, calm but with a mischvious streak
> Doesn't really trust high-up figures, especially older ones (due to what happened with SEES)
> Urge to collect Phoenix Ranger R figurines (but hide the evidence)
> Persona usage using the Evoker (could point to head then realize Evoker is not in hand since she doesn't have one)
> Martial Arts Fighting
> Urge to eat only vegetables and chicken.
> Very impatient if shes' trying to teach someone else how to cook
> Call other people by nicknames (Shinjiro is Jiji)
> Brotherly bond with Shinjiro (even if he's grumpy)

> Speaking patterns; she has used a lot of Shinji'isms in her life, so she will Tch, and use figures of speech Shinjiro would use when she's angry (Get lost, Whatever, Son of a bitch, Let's kick some ass, etc.)
> You can also see her battle quotes right here: http://helenchanted.dreamwidth.org/1019.html (After her Persona)

Mundane Skills:
> Cooking (Vegeterian)
> Knowing every episode of Featherman (suddenly a new fan?)

Unique Skills
> Marial Arts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dait%C5%8D-ry%C5%AB_Aiki-j%C5%ABjutsu)
> Manriki & Evoker Weapon usage

Revan [AU1] and Lucy/Kaede [AU1]

[personal profile] forcebonded 2013-05-15 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Your Nickname: Yubi
Character's Name: Revan [AU1] (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic) [personal profile] forcebonded
Exchanging With: Lucy/Kaede [AU1] (Elfen Lied) [profile] mitochondrialeve

Normal Memories:
1. False memory: Attending her mother's funeral on her home planet Deralia
2. The couple of months of accelerated Jedi training on Dantooine
3. Being offered membership to the Genoharadan, a secret group of assassins and bounty hunters
4; Messing with Carth (pick a convo, there's plenty)
5. Talking to Jolee Bindo about oooh destiny oooooh, leading to a rambly old-man story about this one guy who got sucked into an intake pipe and blew up a ship ( "Changed the political course of the entire sector for centuries to come. I'd call that quite a destiny, wouldn't you?" "I hate you, old man.")
6. Her ship getting infested with gizkas, little space-froggy things, for weeks
7. (cn: violence) Losing her shit at Korriban, slaughtering half the students in the sith academy during an escape attempt

Traumatic/Important Memories:
1. Discovering her true identity as Darth Revan with an extra helping of "so all those people I trusted were using me as a weapon, my entire life is a lie, all that time I've been trying to be a good Jedi and apparently I've blown up whole planets, and I'm a huge idiot"
2. Positive memory: The entire crew, aside from Carth, telling her they still stand by her, despite the above
3. (cn: torture & electrocution) Letting Carth get repeatedly electrocuted by Saul
4. Mediating a murder trial on Manaan, obfuscating the truth and manipulating the judges to get a murderer declared innocent

Character Quirks:
Compassionate and inquisitive about people, while tending to be analytical and calculating about them as well; has been coached to be calm and to rein in her emotions, with mixed results. Dry sense of humour. Has a certain amount of arrogance (I know I'm pretty damn good at what I do, so of course I know what's best); if unchecked, can slip into the-ends-justify-the-means behavior (to wit: "I know what I'm doing is bad, but it's for a good reason, and I wouldn't trust anyone but me to get it done right"). Healthy sense of paranoia.

Mundane Skills:
1. Mechanical skills - basic repair skills, nothing too fancy.
2. Dancing - so there was this time when she helped out this Twilek dancer with her act and just shut up about it okay

Unique Skills:
1. Lightsaber duelling: Can pick up a saber and not cut your own limbs off, maaaybe some familiarity with blocks or acrobatic maneuvers. Obviously, this skill overlaps with ordinary swordfighting, although the weight difference with a metal blade will take getting used to.
2. Force sense: Heightened awareness of your surroundings. Can be partly mundane, simply being more alert than usual, or can be supernatural (detecting the presence of hidden people, or whether someone's intentions are good/evil or hostile/friendly, though this isn't always a sure thing).

Your Nickname: Nyx Midnight
Character's Name: Gale (Digital Devil Saga 1)
Comfort Level: Bring it.

Normal Memories:
CONTENT WARNING: Cannibalism, gore.
1. Being churned out of the Sea of Milk to be given a uniform and set out into the wild of the Junkyard. He has the feeling this is not the first time it happened.
2. Organizing the defence of Muladhara alone with his virtual maps. Serph is sleeping with his back to the wall nearby. All is silent.
3. The view of the eternally rainy Junkyard sky from the depths of Muladhara.
4. A strategy reunion in the map room with the highest ranked Embryon. Few words are exchanged, but everyone still understands, efficient as machines.
5. The first enemy he ever ate, a Ghoul, member of the Vanguard. The taste is new. Rich. It pleased him, in retrospect.
6. Hearing music for the first time in a store in Hinoto-Ri and realizing that sadly it had no effect on his hunger.
7. The realization that Hinoro-Ri also had machine merchants to sell life utilities to the public just like the Junkyard.

Traumatic/Important Memories:
CONTENT WARNING: Death
1. The light emerging from the egg between the Embryon and the Vanguard territories that pierced his chest and gave him the power of Atma.
2. The hunger, a new constant in his life, a hissing voice in the back of his mind, always whispering for him to rend, slaughter, devour.
3. Sera's song and the fact that when he hums it to himself, even now, he sees the image of a woman with dark hair. She's crying, though he doesn't know why. It makes his heart squeeze a little.
4. Lupa's madness and his death in his arms. He can't contain the emotions swelling inside him and he finally let them come to him, triggering his awakening Somehow, he feels stronger afterwards, more determined than ever to reach Nirvana, find Lupa's son, and fulfill his promise of telling him to become a man of honour. He has no idea where to start, but he will do it even if he must raze the Junkyard and destroy the Karma Temple.

Character Quirks:
- Often touches the bridge of his nose, as if pushing glasses back by the bridge.
- Says "I do not comprehend" when not understanding something.
- Speaks rather formally, and uses minimal contractions.
- Always thinks a course of action through before acting.

Mundane Skills:
1. Knows how to clean and safely manipulate a firearm.
2. Knows the ins and out of military strategy.

Unique Skills:
1. Atma. This power allows Gale to turn into an Avatar, a stronger (and monstrous) form in which he can use magic, skills and devour his foes.
2. Gale has a unique fighting style based on the fact that he and his Avatar form have concealed knives in their boots/feet with which to slice the enemy apart.

How would Jun like to be an epic space hero who half-accidentally a whole planet once? Other highlights include being connected to the entire universe and suddenly cut off, getting trolled to death by a misplaced Dune character, and getting pursued romantically by an immortal serial killer and a mortal ex-serial killer.

Also, she can keep a secret and make a SAN check.

Heya again! Would you still like to swap? I think this would be pretty interesting for CR development between the two of them when they see each others' respective worlds/situations/stuff.

Player: Ally
Character: Hoshi Takeda [OC]
Exchanging With: Eikichi Mishina [OU] (Persona 2: Innocent Sin) [personal profile] deathboss

Normal Memories:
- It's winter, and you and your papa are going head to head in a snowball fight. It is a long battle, but one you eventually win, and you decide to reward yourself with some hot cocoa with him and your mama.
- Years later, you're in another battle, albeit a much more dangerous one: this time, you're fighting against the Devouring, the sick, disgusting creatures that threaten to destroy the world. You're working alone, because you haven't met your comrades yet, but for the first time in your life, you feel powerful, like nothing in the world can stop you.
- You and Mitsuki like to have tea together every now and then. On one particular occasion, Keiko expresses a desire to join you, and you reluctantly agree. Before long, this results in everyone else — Kotone, Mayu, Sora, and Suzume - inviting themselves over, too. Sounds like a party.
- You're ten years old. It's almost bedtime, and you're only just now sitting down to eat dinner — alone. Your father is nowhere to be found; odds are he's working late again. He never used to miss dinner, before your mother died.
- At Mayu's insistence, you're attending a soccer game with your new friends at their school. You have zero interest in the sport, but the rest of them seem to be enjoying themselves, especially Mayu, so you don't mind being there too much.
- Sora has dragged you out to a scary movie, because no one else could go with her. You close your eyes during the violent parts — not because they frighten you, but because they remind you of things you don't want to remember.
- Keiko is brushing your hair and wants to put it up in pigtails, and you know this is probably a bad idea, but you play along anyway, because it makes her happy.

Traumatic/Important Memories:
CONTENT WARNING for death and violence
- You are seven years old, your mother is dead, and you are pretty sure it was your fault. She was mad at you, you think, and she attacked, chasing you with a knife, so you pushed her away, and she fell down the stairs. Later that night, a black and purple wolf appears on your doorstep, introducing herself as Hotaru. No one else can see her, but she claims that she's here to be your friend and protect you.
- Today is your birthday. There's no party, no cake, and your only gifts are some trinkets and money from your father... and a special key from Hotaru. "Now that you're sixteen, I can tell you! You're a Magical Hunter; you have the power to save the world."
- You and your friends are at the hospital, gathered around Mayu's bedside. You all know that she has never been long for this world, but it doesn't make her passing any easier.
- You haven't had very much time at all to recover from Mayu's death before you lose another precious friend: Sora, who leaps in front of Keiko, taking a mortal blow for her sake. It doesn't take long for her to succumb to her wounds, but when she does, there's a smile on her face.

Character Quirks:
- Very quiet and distant and linefacey. Doesn't smile very often, never laughs.
- Has zero social skills.
- Dresses plainly and tries to attract as little attention as possible.
- Incredibly dependent on the few friends that she has.
- Speaks very formally and is incredibly polite. (For example, she refers to everyone as "family name-san" unless they are very close, in which case they get "given name-san.")
- Opens up a bit more when she's in magical girl mode (i.e., on the battlefield) and becomes more confident and talkative/expressive.

Mundane Skills: Photography, basic cooking.
Unique Skills: Martial arts, dark magic.

AHA wow I suck at getting back to things in a timely manner.

Anyway, I've actually got Hizumi's backstory written out here but the stuff that's going into the event are:

Mundane memories:
-Living happily with loving parents.
-Trying yakiniku and loving it.
-Playing with many friends.
-Moving to the US.
-Going to college (...at age 13)
-Being confined to a hospital.
-Visiting France.

Traumatic/Important memories:
-Finding out about everything related to the devil, Yaiba: the fact that he is a clone of Yaiba, the fact that Yaiba had 80-some test-tube babies created using his own genes, and the fact that all people with his genes have a chance of snapping and trying to violently wipe out humanity, particularly Hizumi once he hits the age of twenty.
-Excitedly beginning his studies in genetics (at the above mentioned US college).
-Realizing that there is absolutely nothing he can do to prevent the above-mentioned curse for anyone, along with the fact that his body will shut down before he even hits the age of 20.
-Suicide attempt: taking a leap off of a building and miraculously surviving (which was why he was confined to the hospital.)

Routine quirks:
-Whiplash conversations; he randomly goes between very serious in discussion to very light-hearted and joking, no matter how severe (or not) the conversation actually is.
-Actually he also just teases people a lot in general.
-Likes yakiniku a lot!
-Used to carrying around a concealed revolver.

Mundane skills:
-Good at basketball.
-Can play/compose music for a harmonica.

Unique skills:
-Fast reflexes/reaction speed.
-Knowledge of genetics, specifically cloning and human cloning.

If this sounds good to you, I'd be totally cool with making the swap \o/ and if not I totally understand too, aha.

I'll write up the list of memories he'd get; is there anything specific you'd want to play around with?

Character's Name: Shinjiro Aragaki [OU] (Persona 3 Portable) — [personal profile] themortalhalf
Exchanging With: Yarne [OU] (Fire Emblem: Awakening) — [personal profile] bunnyboy

Spoilers for Persona 3 up to October 4th all up in here.

Normal Memories

1. There are memories that are always meant to flow together. They're flashes of moments, like frames of film, most only seconds long, but irrevocably tied together like string without a knot. The memories are of he and Akihiko playing at the orphanage or at the Naganaki shrine at various ages. In mornings. Evenings. Snow. Rain. Sun. All of them are good and differ from one another very little. They're happy and carefree. It's like nothing could possibly go wrong, and they have all the days in their infinite immortal lifetimes to be this way. Sometimes Miki, Aki's younger sister, joins the memories too, like a quiet ghost. She's a shy girl, and Shinjiro wants to look after her, like a brother should even if he's not one, but in the end, she doesn't need much watching. Aki needs more looking-after than Miki ever does. He's a bit weird, and everyone knows it, though Shinji's never called Aki weird to his face, and he can't say he cares so long as Aki doesn't hurt himself. And someone has to make sure that doesn't happen so Shinjiro sticks by him and looks after him and indulges (and happily participates in) all his little games (most of the time), and if Aki hasn't torn his shirt off by the time he's catapulted down the damn slide like some kind of oiled fish with lightening for blood, Shinjiro knows he's not being competitive enough for his idiotic standards.

2. Miki doesn't have any friends, so one day, Shinjiro steals one for her. It's a toy, a doll, that he takes effortlessly from a nearby toy store. He feels a little guilty about it because he's stealing, and he's more than old enough to know that it's wrong. But there are other things that are pretty wrong with how the world works: it's wrong that Miki should have to go without just because she doesn't have parents anymore and the orphanage is poor. So, in his mind, he's just fixing an injustice because he knows it will make Miki happy. However, before he can even give the doll to her, Aki's found out about it. And Aki's idea of what's right and wrong are different from his, because as soon as he realizes what Shinjiro's done, he beats him up for it. Beats the crap out of him even though they're only young kids—seven. Shinjiro thinks about fighting back, almost, except Aki's crying, tears rolling down his face like he intends to drown Shinjiro in them. That hurts more than the punches do, so he lays back and takes it. They return the doll together. Shinjiro never steals again.

3. There's a certain solemnness to this memory. Shinjiro's eight years old. He and Aki are dressed in black, in clothes that are old and don't fit either of them well, and both are leaning against the wall of the building that's not the orphanage—because the orphanage doesn't exist any more. Aki's been crying, but the tears are gone, and he says that he wishes that he were stronger, because if he were stronger, things like this wouldn't happen. There's a pause, and Shinjiro suddenly realizes he can't be who he is now anymore. Shinjiro needs to be stronger, too, and he thinks he knows what he has to do and who he needs to be. So they promise to become stronger together, no matter how long it takes or what sacrifices it requires.

4. The Chairman told Shinjiro that he didn't have much potential. Shinjiro can't say he gives a damn what the Chairman says (he can't even make a decent pun, let alone seem competent, don't matter what his IQ is when you like to act like an idiot), and has taken to making a very quiet, stubborn nuisance of himself within the almost-empty dorm building that the Kirijo family owns and Aki now lives in. Shinjiro's been in the Dark Hour just like they have, and he can't leave Aki to it alone. Finally, after what seems like weeks of waiting, Mitsuru comes down the stairs and hands him something that resembles a gun: an Evoker. Aki acts like he's just gotten the best news of his life. Shinjiro just wants to buy a very short leash.

5. Shinjiro is 17, and drawn to the sound of rough-talking going on at the back alley he frequents now, though says little because he'd rather keep to himself. What he finds when he ventures over doesn't surprise him, especially once the encounter is done with and he's given time to mull the whole stupid thing over. It's like some sort of joke, really. The "what happens when three idiots walk into a bar" type of deal. Except this is Tatsumi Port Island's back alley and he's not laughing. They shouldn't be here. But he'll take care of it.

6. It takes time, needling and resolve, but soon the planning is done, the ingredients are set, and he'll only have Fuuka to watch and manage like a hawk, though she's improving when she bothers to focus and pay attention. He can handle that with his own rough sort of patience. The rest will come easy. Even so, it's easier to feed people than be around them, because they say unnecessary things (like, "thank you, this is delicious) that they should keep to themselves. By the end of it, the evening wasn't nearly as bad (it wasn't at all) as he'd like to pretend. He's forgotten how simple it is to make people happy.

7. He just wants to hear Minako talk. It doesn't matter about what, really. He's not much of a conversation piece, so it doesn't really matter. It helps him get his mind off things, except now it's working less and less, but at least it looks like she's enjoying her life like she should be. That's important to him, somehow. He wishes he could find a way to not ruin it, but he can't think of one. Nothing stays normal for very long. He can't make her forget him, and he doesn't expect her to forgive him for what's probably going to happen. But he's not going to fight what's fair. He just hopes she'll keep smiling, because he'd like her to. Just like he wants all the others to forget him and move on, so maybe he can stop worrying about them. He doesn't want to leave anything behind, doubts or regrets, but he's not doing a very good job.

Important Memories

1. The air is filled with smoke and fire and flakes of falling embers. The orphanage is a roaring inferno of flame: it's devouring their home from the inside out. Aki's yelling and crying and fighting with every last ounce of energy he has, a mess of struggling limbs and wide grey eyes. One of the orphanage workers is holding Aki back, keeping him from running back inside. Aki has already yelled himself hoarse, but Shinjiro has fallen completely silent. Watching. He feels numb. He already knows there's nothing he can do. Miki's in there, but Shinjiro's old enough to know that she's probably dead. He hopes she is, because he doesn't want to imagine her alive in there, scared and alone. He hopes that she's gone and that the fire never had a chance to touch her.

2. The night starts off as any other, edging into the hidden Dark Hour like clockwork even though the watch hands have stopped counting the seconds. The three of them have chased down an irregular Shadow, tracking it to a house in Port Island's back alley, in the cheap housing there.

That's the only normal part of the night. After that, everything goes wrong.

The woman inside the house is awake but something's off, because the Shadow's there but something still isn't right because the woman's not acting half how she should. There's something said about a kid, and Shinji thinks he can't let the Shadow move further inside, because he can't let it harm a little kid. And then, suddenly, something inside him snaps, and his head feels like it's splitting open. He hears someone yelling, but doesn't realize the yelling is coming from him as he tries to hold the pressure in his head back, but he can't. He can't hold it back, because it hurts too much. He sees the little kid then and Castor just tears out of him and there's not a damn thing he can do. Nothing Aki can do and nothing that Mitsuru can do. All he can do is hear Castor's screams and watch the Persona continue on his wild, berserk rampage through the room in a whirlwind of uncontrolled power. Things break and the house is torn apart. Castor stops only when the Shadow is dead, until there's not even wisps of dark to remember its presence by, then he disappears as abruptly as a nightmare.

But the Shadow isn't the only thing that's dead. The woman is dead too. He can tell because he just knows and her body's broken, arms thrown over the little kid in a final effort to protect him, because even if she wasn't all there, she was still a mother in the end. And now she's dead and it's all his fault and nothing can possibly make any of this better. He wishes he were dead. Or that he'd wake up. But nightmares don't get as bad as this.

3. Ken says, "Do you know why I asked you to meet me here?"

Shinjiro does. Of course he does. He hasn't been able to forget. He came to this place to die; he hasn't come here to live.

And by the end, when he's lying in a pool of his own blood and struggling to breathe under the night's dark green sky (still darkening), he finds that everything is (finally) as it should be.

(He told her, though, not to cry.)

4. When she says "I love you," it's not that he doesn't believe her, or that he doesn't feel the same. It's that she shouldn't, and neither should he.

Character Quirks:

  • His speech is blunt, abrasive, and direct to try to distance himself from other people, and make sure they stay distant from him, even with friends, even though he worries after their well-being. Uses "tch" in conversations, and expletives are common.
  • Holds in his emotions in favor of a rougher presentation. Pretends he doesn't care.
  • Fond of animals (especially dogs).
  • Enjoys cooking and watches cooking shows and reads cooking magazines. Really hated carrots as a child.
  • Has a mountain full of guilt and self-worth issues. Prefers not to "lie." Would rather just not answer or evade a question.
  • Cautious and stubborn. Tends to scold and call out people who do things that could potentially harm their well-being. Nags people he cares for about eating healthy.
  • Gets easily embarrassed and flustered over things like being thanked or appreciated, and hates being in the limelight.

    Mundane Skills: Cooking. Very street-savvy.
Unique Skills: Is able to use axes (or any blunt-force weapon like hammers) proficiently. Advanced Persona knowledge and use (including Evokers).
